Pomeranian owners please help with grooming question?
We own an adorable larger size Pom and we are quite proud of her and her coat. We just moved to OK this past summer and suddenly began having trouble finding a groomer that knows how to cut her properly. We have been to two dog groomers, both with the same result- she came back looking like a Chow- short hair and especially short mane.
I specify that I want her hair cut, but I still want it long and I don't want her to look like a Chow, but she always comes back looking like a Chow.
How do I tell them not to cut her short and especially not to cut her mane short? Is there a specific term I need to use? Should I say "trim all over" instead of "cut"? I'm so frustrated.
There are a lot of ways to clip a double coated breed like a pom. You may ask for a longer comb attachment be used instead of a clipper blade. Clipper blades only go to #3 or 1/2" inch in length. After that you need to work with clip on comb attachments. That go from 1/2" to about 1 1/2", Sounds like your going for a longer style lion clip. Or a full body contour clip.
If you tell me to cut to clip your dog short i'm going to ask you to show mw how much hair you want left with your fingers. Do not say take off half an inch because that is nearly impossiable to judge. Tell them how much hair you want the finish clip to have.
If you have a photo take that to show them.
But not all groomers can give the same hair cut. I work with a groomer that can not for the life of him make the same breed dog look like the one i'm groomed with the same clipper and same length blade. His dog will look different.
You may be finding that the groomers in your area are not as skilled as your old groomer with your dog.
