Does it matter if I cut a pattern differently the the pattern suggests?
I have some fabric that I want to use for a pattern. It calls for 60" fabric. Guess I missed that part because I bought a 45" piece.
Anyways, with the selvage edges together I went to lay the biggest piece of the pattern(which is the skirt) and it is a few inches to long....so my question is, can I fold the fabric differently to cut th...is piece or is there a good reason for the selvage edges to be together? I hope this all makes sense.....and thanks for any advice you can give

Yes, it does matter.
You need to place the pieces on the straight of grain or risk loosing wearing ease. There maybe other pieces of the pattern that call for cutting on the bias.
I believe no matter how you lay out the pattern, you will have to purchase more fabric.
Keep this conversion chart handy when shopping so you will know how much fabric to purchase when the width is different than what the pattern calls for - http://patternsthatfityou.com/fabricconversionchart.htm Look at the 60" width column for the amount needed, then subtract what you actually purchased to help you determine how much more fabric will be needed.
